Our clients came to us with a growing family and an urgent need to expand their 1BD/1BA bungalow in Culver City. Their property already included another house and a shared 2-car garage, so space was at a premium, and every inch gained on the home’s existing 430 SF layout required expert precision and innovative design.
Our efforts ultimately resulted in an efficient 2,104 SF floor plan that accommodates not only 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms but also a home office. The key to capturing this additional square footage was bridging the second floor over the driveway that accesses the back house, allowing the front of the new home to span the full width of the site. We then used building separation requirements to create extra parking and an exterior patio for seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
We wanted it to feel cozy but not confining, so we included 11-foot ceilings on the open-plan first floor and 10-foot-6-inch ceilings on the second. To maximize the effect, we used large picture windows to flood the interior with natural light, created open sight lines to all shared spaces, and incorporated built-ins wherever possible.
Our clients love Modern design, so we delivered with simple yet strong exterior massing that unifies all the home's elements and enhances curb appeal. Inside, we used a contemporary palette with clean lines for all millwork and fittings. We love how it all came together—the home of their dreams that’s made for real life.
