Malibu Modern

Malibu

Nestled in the exclusive hills of Malibu, this three-story, 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 2,784-square-foot home had the perfect location, but the house itself required a full reimagining—and that’s where we stepped in. Our design focuses on enhancing the home’s overall flow and its connection to the surrounding landscape, maximizing natural light, and ensuring its picturesque views are accessible from every level.

For the front facade, we added square footage to create an intimate entry with a cozy patio space off the den/home office. To the right of the front door, an attached trellis invites flowering vines to grow and define the space between the main house and garage.

At the rear of the house, we envisioned a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces on each level with floor-to ceiling folding glass doors and natural wood decks wrapping around the main and upper levels. Each deck accounts for the existing mature trees as key features of the property, while also offering overlooks of the lush canyon below. We further elevated the exterior finishes with stone and standing seam.

Inside, we opened up the floor plan with a modern layout, balancing the use of strong lines with warm, natural, and textured surfaces. The effect creates depth in each room and continues the theme of blurred boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. A floating staircase with a vertical cut out spans all three levels, creating a sculptural center piece that anchors the overall design and serves as the heart of the home.

We love how this modern refresh not only stands out but also effortlessly blends with the idyllic splendor of one of Los Angeles County’s most coveted locations.
