Our clients came to us to help usher their 1968 post and beam classic, designed by notable Los Angeles architect, John Lawrence Pugsley, into the 21st Century.
While still preserving the Mid-Century appeal, like the tongue and groove wood ceilings, we made thoughtful flow and function updates to the floor plan that would allow every room to share in the stunning 270º views, abundant natural light, and access to the outdoors. Throughout the home we poured terrazzo floors, installed new pendant lighting, laid modern tile for the fireplace, and refurbished the existing built-ins and cabinetry.
We completely modernized the dated kitchen with all new cabinetry, appliances, and a custom terrazzo waterfall edge countertop. Ample storage was very important to our clients as they desired a clean, uncluttered kitchen and counter space.
For the primary bathroom and a secondary bedroom, which both share access to a courtyard, we selected finishes and fixtures that added a contemporary twist to the period aesthetic. In the primary bath we created a luxurious wet room.
Every exterior choice was about drawing the eye out through the eaves for a seamless transition from the interior without sacrificing the original charm and feel of the home. We created courtyards and breezeways with new roof cut-outs that extend and accentuate these striking horizontal lines. The deck that leads from the kitchen, formal living, and dining rooms, overlooks a cozy outdoor living space and incorporates a portion of the pool. Terracing planters cascade down to a vibrant pool tile refresh that positively pops, breathing life back into the backyard.
